Camp One Clap 2, Episode 19: Zcherina Villegas on Fears and Authenticity in Speech and Debate

Hey, Campers! We have arrived at day 19 here at Camp One Clap, and even though we are stuck in the Clapocalypse, things couldn’t be better.  Zcherina Villegas, Cheyenne East alum and friend of the podcast, is here to help guide us through! Tune in for Zcherina's take on paranormal beliefs, authenticity in speeches, and facing fears head-on. It's spooky fun with profound insights!

Hi there, Campers! Zcherina Villegas is back at Camp One Clap!

Today, Zcherina shares her intriguing insights on a variety of topics, from her love for horror films to the importance of authenticity in Speech and Debate. In our conversation, Zcherina emphasizes the power of authenticity, urging speakers to be true to themselves. By integrating personal stories and genuine humor, Zcherina offers practical advice for creating compelling and memorable performances. Her approach underscores the importance of being oneself in delivering impactful speeches.

Facing fears is a recurring theme in Zcherina's journey through Speech and Debate. She discusses emotionally and personally charged topics like colorism and skin bleaching, and Zcherina's experiences highlight the importance of resilience and personal advocacy. One especially poignant story involves a judge dismissing her topic of colorism as irrelevant. Zcherina's ability to laugh off the ignorance and continue advocating for important issues speaks volumes about her strength and commitment.

The episode also touches on the challenges of balancing multiple competitions, both virtual and in-person. Zcherina's recounts a hectic day where she had to switch between two different competitions, even resorting to competing from a Walmart family bathroom. This story not only adds humor but also shows her adaptability and dedication to the craft of speech.

Throughout the episode, Zcherina emphasizes the importance of maintaining one's personality in speeches and debates. She believes that being authentic, passionate, and true to oneself can significantly enhance the delivery and impact of a speech. This approach is encapsulated in her practical framework focusing on the three H's—head, heart, and humor. By staying true to oneself, speakers can create more engaging and memorable performances.

Thank you so much to Zcherina for joining us at Camp One Clap and sharing her stories and voice! I'm excited to have her back on the pod in the future!
