Hi there, Campers! It's a beautiful day in the Clapocalypse!

Prepare for an episode packed with spine-chilling thrills and heartwarming moments as we welcome Wyoming Hall of Famer Ashley Schultz to the One Clap Speech and Debate podcast at Camp One Clap! In this episode, Ashley discusses her favorite Stephen King novels and the eerie impact of "The Blair Witch Project." She also reveals her chances of surviving an actual apocalypse scenario, before taking time to discuss her own Speech and Debate origin story and why she loves coaching. Her story of how she got involved in the activity is both relatable and inspiring. Ashley recounts her first day in the speech room with legendary coach Michael Starks and the challenges she faced along the way. Despite considering leaving the activity multiple times, she found herself returning year after year, eventually becoming an assistant coach and now a celebrated figure in the Speech and Debate community.

Ashley also reflects on the importance of that community. She emphasizes the transformative power of the activity, watching students grow from shy freshmen to confident competitors. The camaraderie and support among coaches and students are highlighted as key elements that make the experience so rewarding. The sense of belonging and understanding within the community is something Ashley cherishes deeply.

Ashley also touches on the challenges of coaching, showing concern especially for the difficulties of retaining and supporting fellow educators and coaches. Ashley offers valuable advice for new and seasoned coaches alike, stressing the importance of leveraging available resources, building supportive networks, and prioritizing self-care. She shares her own experiences of finding support within the coaching community and the significance of taking time to recharge.

Thank you to Ashley for coming by Camp One Clap and helping us make our way through the Clapocalypse!
